Custom fulfillment services

A custom fulfillment service is a partner — a warehouse, a dropshipper, a co-packer — who stores your products and ships orders on your behalf. Sellerlane communicates with them by email: when an order needs to go out, you click Request fulfillment and the service receives an email with everything they need to pack and ship it.

Adding a fulfillment service creates a location for it in your store, so you can stock inventory there and route orders to it just like any of your own locations.

Add a fulfillment service

  1. Go to Settings → Shipping and delivery → Custom order fulfillment.

  2. Click Add fulfillment service.

  3. Enter the service’s name and the email address fulfillment requests should be sent to.

  4. Save. Sellerlane creates a matching location for the service.

The service’s location appears in a separate Fulfillment services section — it isn’t offered for pickup or POS and can’t be your default location, but it holds inventory like any other location.

Stock products at the service

For orders to route to the service, the products it ships need inventory at its location. On each product’s inventory section, add stock quantities at the fulfillment service’s location — either directly, or by transferring inventory from another location as you physically send goods to the partner.

Request fulfillment

When an order contains items planned at the service’s location, you send the work to your partner from the order page.

  1. Open the order. The fulfillment order at the service’s location offers Request fulfillment.

  2. Optionally add a note for the service, then send the request.

  3. The service receives an email containing the items and quantities, SKUs, the customer’s name and shipping address, the order name, and your note — everything needed to pack and dispatch the shipment.

The fulfillment order is stamped as requested so you can see the request has gone out. If the service loses the email or you need to nudge them, you can re-request — sending again is always allowed.

After the request: recording the shipment

Everything past the email is manual — the service doesn’t push tracking back into Sellerlane. When your partner confirms dispatch:

  1. Create the fulfillment on the order and add the tracking number they gave you.
  2. Mark it fulfilled.

The customer receives the normal shipping confirmation for a fulfillment-service shipment, exactly as if you’d shipped it yourself — fulfillment services ship to the customer, so the standard ship flow (and its email) applies. See Fulfilling orders and tracking.

Remove a fulfillment service

A fulfillment service can only be deleted when no inventory remains at its location. Transfer remaining stock out to one of your own locations first, then delete the service — its location is removed with it.
